The Time Trials contest is an excellent test of the micromouse robot’s performance. Precise turns, acceleration, speed and great steering. It is also a lot of fun at the end of the day while the main results are being sorted out. There are very few rules.

Essentially, the task is to get round the outside of the maze as fast as possible. The best complete circuit time is recorded and scores are simply the run times.

Any kind of maze-compatible robot can be used – it does not have to be a conventional micromouse. A wall-follower would find it easy and you could even build a completely mechanical robot designed specifically for the job.

The maze is configured like this using the Classic maze size and the timing gate is the one across the normal start cell exit:
